Some tips for you:

(1). If you are planning to visit the Beijing Botanical Garden in the morning, you’d better leave your home in the early morning no matter you drive your car or take the bus. You will probably meet the traffic jam if you leave your home at 9 am or 10 am.
 
(2). To visit the Beijing Botanical Garden at 3 pm or 4 pm is not a bad choice. The garden is still very beautiful at this time and it will not be very crowded like the  morning. (3). The Beijing Botanical Garden is very big but there are no good restaurants in it. You can bring your own food here if you want. (like chocolate, cookie, etc)

(4). In my point of view, the most attractive places of this botanical garden is: China rose garden, music fountain, Cherry Valley. The Tropical Conservatory is very beautiful too, but you will need to pay an extra 50 rmb for it.

About the Tropical Conservatory in the Beijing Botanical Garden:

The Tropical Conservatory was located in the center of Beijing Botanical Garden. It started on March 28, 1998 and was open to public on January 1, 2000. It was ranked as one of the Ten Buildings of Beijing in the 1990s, and with an area of 9,800 square meters, it stands as the largest exhibition conservatory in Asia.(info for your China vacations and China trip) It also boasts the country’s advanced facilities. The conservatory is divided into four display areas, including the tropical rainforest area, the cacti and succulents area, the orchids, bromeliads & carnivorous plant garden and the four-season garden. The Old City God’s Temple :

Old City God’s Temple (Laochenghuangmiao) is a major yet relatively inactive, Taoist temple in Shanghai. It is located in the area south of Yan’an Road on the Fangbang Zhong Road.
During the Ming Dynasty, Zhangshouyue, the head of Shanghai County, dedicated a temple to the local city god. Since then, the City God’s Temple has been destroyed several times and the current temple was built in 1926. During the the war of resistance against Japanese invasion during World War II, local merchants built a new City God’s Temple in the Foreign Concession (between Lianyun Road and West Jinling Road).
That area is now a highrise residence building. The “former” temple is known as the Old City God’s Temple. The Old City God’s Temple and the enclose Yuyuan are not only famous tourist sites but also popular shopping attractions. There are boutiques, shops selling local specialties, as well as large jewelry stores, department stores and fabulous local snack restaurants to be found here. Yuyuan Garden:

Yuyuan Garden is northeast of the Old Town. A high official had it designed in the Suzhou style as a private garden and built from 1559– 1577. Later, it was restored several times. In spite of its relatively small area of two hectares it seems considerably larger due to the skillful arrangement of 30 different landscape scenes.

The garden consists of an inner and an outer section. The inner garden, neiyuan, is in the southern part and substantially smaller than the outer one, but then, it is more impressive and romantic, if it is possible to visit it in the early moring hours in order to enjoy it alone. An excellent calligrapher displays his work in one of the halls.

the outer part is in the north and contains numberous halls, pavilions and lakes. In 1853, the Pavilion of Spring in the northeast was the seat of the Xiaodao Hui, the Society of Little Swords, tho led an uprishing against Qing rule and occupied Shanghai for 17 months. A man-made, 11-m-high hill bounds the garden in the northwest. Huxin Ting teahouse is a favorite with the citizens of Shanghai. It is in the southwest, outside of the garden grounds, a two-story building resting on posts in the middle of a pond and connected to the shore by a ‘Zigzag Bridge’

The bond:

Its famous riverside avenue (formerly called the Bund), with its park-like green areas and tall buildings, is Shanghai’s landmark. Here, the visitor stands in front of magnificent buildings in the art nouveau style that once housed the clubs, banks, companies and hotels of the foreign rulers. The Forbidden City – This enchanting Forbidden city is the world’s well known architecture located in Beijing. It is China’s group of palaces that are the bets and largest in the country. The history of the Peking roast duck can be traced back to as early as the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368) when it was listed among the imperial dishes in the Complete Recipes for Dishes and Beverages, written in 1330 by Hu Sihui, an inspector of the imperial kitchen. Details regarding the cooking process were also described in this early cookbook.

In the early 15th century, when the Ming Dynasty capital was shifted from Nanjing to Beijing, roast duck remained one of the famous dishes on imperial court menus. According to the local history, the earliest roast duck restaurant in Beijing was the old Bianyifang Restaurant, which opened during the Jiajing reign (1522-1566). ( info for your China travel and vacations ) Distinct from the method in which the duck is hung from a hook in the ceiling of the oven and roasted over and roasted over burning wood, the Old Bianyifang Restaurant roasted its ducks with radiant heat. The walls of the oven were first heated with sorghum stalks whereupon the duck was placed inside and cooked by the heat given off by the walls. Nowadays, if you talk about the Peking roast duck, everyone will mention the Quanjude roast duck. It is like the representative of the Peking roast duck. Quanjude has several stores in Beijing and the most famous one is the Qianmen (Qian gate) Quanjude. The Qianmen Quanjude is not only a restaurant to eat roast ducks, but also a place of tourist attraction now. The furnitures here are very “Traditional Chinese” and you can feel the charm of the Chinese culture here. There are 30 VIP rooms and 1 president room in this restaurant. One interesting thing I found is that you can write some Chinese charaters in the body of the duck with a Chinese writing brush before it is roasted. These charaters will then appear in your finished roast duck. Pretty funny!   There is an old shop in this Quanjude restaurant and you can find the look of the Quanjuede in 1930 there. Lots of people think this is the best place for the travellers to find the “Old Beijing feeling”. You can even find the map of the old Beijing Hutongs here. The roast ducks are very delicious in Quanjude for sure, but what attracts so many people here is the history and traditional Chinese culture of this old restaurant. (2).  Bianyifang ( Since 1416) :

The Chinese characters for Bianyifang has two meanings: one is “cheap restaurant” and the other is “convinient restaurant”. At first, I thought the name means cheap.   Lots of people made the same mistake. Actually the “Bianyi” here means “convinient”, not “cheap”. The most famous shopping mall for the foreigners in Beijing is the Xiu Shui Market(Silk Street Market). It is located along Chang An avenue near the Yong An Li (120) line 1 subway station. You can now walk directly from the subway into the mall via an underground passageway without stepping outside into the scorching heat of summer or the terrible cold of winter. Xiu Shui Market has 410 stores and almost 1000 employees. The total revenue is more than 100 million rmb last year. You can get traditional Chinese silk,handmade handicrafts here. But what makes the Xiu Shui Market so famous is not these items. In the the ninteen 80’s or 90’s, most stores here were selling Parallel import items or fakes. There is a story about these fake items: An Italian once bought some handbags and watches. When he brought these fake items back to Italia and do some identifications,the result is surprising, they are not fakes. This story attracts a lot of tourists to the Xiu Shui Market. 
Now Xiu Shui market is in a new 5 storey building. This building replaced the old outdoor Xiu Shui market. If you don’t have too much time for shopping in Beijing, the Xiu Shui market could be the only place you need to visit. In this new market, the store assistants are trained to speak English. This makes your shopping easier here. Of course, they don’t speak very good English. Their English is something like “cheaper”,”your price”,”80 yuan”, etc. They often carry a calculator and use it to show the price to customers.
Bargaining skills are still very important here. Usually you can get 50% to 70% off if you are good at bargaining. The new Xiu Shui market is no longer a place to buy fake items anymore. The government has made a lot of efforts to regulate this market. The chance you will get fake items here is pretty small.(A good news for your China vacations)
Items here is like: Shoes,Trousers,Jackets,Chinese Carpets,Watches,Silk by the roll,Jeans,Chinese Paintings,Pearls,etc. The most attractive thing here is the price comparing with the price in other countries. Sometimes you can get good things ridiculously cheap if you are really good at bargaining.
